When Mark told his parents about his past life on Mars, they thought he was just making things up and just got along with his imagination. But when Mark received his own computer for his birthday things took weird turns. Mark started to search the internet to find more information about his past life, and then one day… Two strange men stood at his door. “Are you Mark? We want to speak with you kid” one said. Mark answered, “I have a message”… His parents only found out what was happening when it was already too late. They heard mark faintly talking to somebody at the door, but when they went to check, the boy was no longer there. When Joyce stepped outside, she could only catch a glimpse of her dear son… A man in a suit guided the boy into a blacked-out car before getting in himself and the car sped off. Joyce ran out of the house, but there was no way she could catch the vehicle. Tears were streaming down her face. This has to be because of Mark’s message. Why had they not taken him seriously?? In the following days, it would all become clear to the parents. They realized they should have listened to their son and not do his message off as “Crazy talk”… But what was Mark’s strange connection to the red planet? Who were the men in suits and why did they take mark away like that? From a very early age, the thing young Mark talked about the most was Mars. His parents had no idea how or when exactly this obsession started, but their son just would not stop talking about his “past life on Mars”. His mother Joyce first encouraged these “creative” thoughts but had recently found that it was maybe getting a bit too much… Mark was not making any friends as he scared them all off with his Mars talk. He also had no way to interact with them after school making everything more difficult. This was partly Jooce her fault she felt as if she had not given mark a computer yet. Maybe gaming with friends would distract her son from his Mars obsession. But it would do the opposite… On his birthday, Joyce surprised Mark with a computer. The boy seemed extreme and immediately took the computer upstairs to install it. Joyce hoped he was also making it ready to game on, but Mark was doing something very different with the equipment… Mark did not return to the guests downstairs. ”What could he be doing up there for so long? ” questioned his mother, Joyce. She went to pick him up from his room and have him rejoin his party, only to see her little boy in a state that she’d never seen before… Mark didn’t respond to her at all! He didn’t even seem to mean it that way; it was as if he really didn’t hear her. He stared motionlessly at the screen, not noticing or hearing his mother, who kept raising her voice to get through to him. Joyce carefully takes a few steps closer, and just before she reaches him, he suddenly turns to her. Although his eyes were open the entire time, it was as if he had just woken up. He then says obediently to his mother: “Oh, hi there, mom!” Joyce doesn’t know what to say. She’s amazed at the scene she’s just seen, but she’s also happy that he’s still just the “old” Mark once she gets closer to him. Unfortunately, she would see more and more of the ‘new’ Mark in the coming weeks… After the family and friends have all gone home, Joyce and her husband Oscar are ready for a good night’s sleep. They urge Mark to go to bed as well, and he immediately starts brushing his teeth. He then asks if he can use his computer for a while before going to sleep. He was up to something. Joyce agrees. She emphasizes that it is an exception. “From tomorrow, you can’t use the computer after 7:00 PM, is that understood?” Mark nods obediently. Joyce and Oscar smile with satisfaction as they remember how happy they made their son with his birthday present. But Mark’s unpredictability of the days to come would soon make that smile disappear. Days go by, everything seems fine, and Mark actually seems to stick to the computer times. Well, he did, but out of sight of Joyce and Oscar, more was developing than they had thought possible. It was the dreams Mark had that now drove him to get behind his computer at night. One night, Oscar began to notice. He came home a little later, after drinking a few beers in the cafeteria with some rugby buddies. After returning home, he went straight to the bedroom, but when he looked to the right, he saw light coming from under Oscar’s door. And that was not all: he also heard little Mark sobbing and mumbling a few words. He opens the door a crack as quietly as he can, so as not to wake his wife. He expects Mark to have a nightmare, and that he simply has to wake him up from it. It was a nightmare indeed, but not one that Oscar could save little Mark from… Oscar saw Mark behind his computer! Mark had no idea that his dad had come in. Oscar watched as tears rolled down Mark’s cheeks, and what was even more disturbing, Mark was speaking some sort of unintelligible language! He had tilted his head slightly back with his mouth slightly open, as he tried to say something… Not knowing what to do, Oscar immediately leaves Mark’s bedroom! He cannot understand it, and so he does not bother to explain it to himself at all. He goes straight to bed, falls asleep quickly, and has plenty to think about the next morning… Oscar sits at the breakfast table with Joyce and Mark the next morning. Oscar keeps staring at Mark, who seems as unbothered as any other day! He then asks him gently: “Hey, buddy, did you sleep well? You look a little tired.” Mark’s answer would surprise him. “Do you really care, Dad? You never wanted to hear about Mars. If I seem tired, it has to do with Mars.” And he stands up from the breakfast table and walks away. Oscar can’t believe his ears. Maybe it was time to seek help for this after all. Little did he know, help was on the way, and it wasn’t the help he had in mind… Oscar takes Joyce aside shortly after breakfast to tell her about what he had seen and heard that night. But he didn’t have to count on much support: Joyce laughs about it and tells him that he should drink less at the rugby club from now on. Looking back, Joyce should have listened, then maybe all this would have ended a little better… The next surprise was right around the corner. And this time, it was Joyce who would have to deal with it. Mark repeatedly asked her for more paper, because the papers in his printer had already run out. She suspects he’s just drawing on it, but that wasn’t the case. Little Mark prepared his message. Joyce buys the papers for Mark and calls him when she gets home. Joyce holds the papers for a while, while Mark already wants to walk away with them. She makes sure to tell him that it’s not cheap, and Mark says he understands. Then, Joyce asks him what he actually needs the paper for. ”Come to my room, mommy, and I’ll let you read the message!” Mark replies. Joyce agrees, still not fully understanding the seriousness of the situation, and tells him she’ll come after she’s done cleaning the house. But it was already too late for that because before she had time to go to Mark’s room, two men were at the door. They came for Mark. Joyce initially opens the door, while Mark also arrives. He stands in front of his mother very naturally, as if he is already expecting the men. The men tell Mark they want to see him. Joyce is shocked because the men address him directly and not her! And that wasn’t all… She asks herself why there were even there, and why they came specifically for Mark. They want to speak to Mark, alone! It makes her feel uneasy, and she replies to the men: “No way! Who are you, and what are you doing here?” It became a nasty scene after that… The men refuse to justify themselves, and tell her that this is a serious matter. They promise to tell her everything as soon as they get to talk to Mark. That was the most important thing, and they wouldn’t reveal anything else until then. Joyce’s reaction to that was understandable. “You mean an 8-year-old? What could possibly be so important that you can talk to my little boy about, and not to me?” This seemed like a logical question, but Joyce had no idea of the seriousness of the situation. She tells the men that she wants to involve her husband, who had to be called first. Joyce hangs up the phone after speaking to Oscar, who told her that he’s coming right away. Meanwhile, she closes the door, telling the men they will have to wait. But then, just before she closes the door, the men also have a message for her… “I’m afraid we’re gonna have to make a call too, madam. We understand your resistance, but you see, you should have worked along.” Those are terrifying words for Joyce. What could they mean by that? Unfortunately, this was not all, because they fulfilled their words and started calling right away. And even before Oscar gets home, members of the Secret Service have arrived! They have clearly responded to the call of the two men at the door, and are now surrounding the house! Joyce panics. It’s a threatening sight, and she wants to protect little Mark from it. But Mark is calm, suspiciously calm even. Oscar doesn’t know what he sees when he gets home! The men do look at him, one of them even greets him, but it is clear that they are here for Mark and no one else. What was going on in Mark’s life that his parents had no idea about? Was he really that special? It started to look like it… Understanding that there is little time before the Secret Service will step in, Oscar and Joyce turn to Mark. They hope that by approaching him in this way, Mark will tell them what he has to say rather than telling the Secret Service men. “Why are they here, Mark?” asks Oscar. “I tried to tell you! But you didn’t listen to me. Now I don’t know what to say anymore. I don’t understand my dreams, maybe they will…” says Mark, pointing to the men outside. Joyce is hopeful because Mark at least answered Oscar’s question. But then something unexpected happens. Because Mark pointed to the men, they took that as a sign that he wanted to talk. They therefore enter the house uninvited and ask if they can speak to Mark alone. Mark then says, “You can go, mom. You too, dad. I’ll be fine.” And so the parents leave their son with their heads bowed. They wait in suspense. Oscar makes an attempt to catch some of the conversations by putting a glass on the wall. Unfortunately, the secret service men seem prepared for this because he only hears the white noise of a device. It was clear that they were not allowed to hear this… Twenty minutes passed. Joyce and Oscar had sat in complete silence for the first ten minutes, until Oscar asked, “Do you think we should have taken him more seriously?” Joyce looks at him, without answering. She knows she needs Oscar now and vice versa, but can’t help but sneer. “Maybe this is what happens when the father of a boy spends more time with his friends than with his family.” Oscar looks up startled, and then replies in a fierce tone: “Oh, really? That’s why there’s secret service in our house, talking to our 8-year-old son? That’s my fault? Simply because I have a social life?” Joyce doesn’t respond, which also calms Oscar down. They look at each other, and understand that the reproaches are only due to the strange situation they are in. They’re making up, and it’s just the right time, as there’s a knock at the door. It’s the two guys from the Secret Service. They tell with a completely neutral look that a bag needs to be packed for Mark. “And if you want to come along yourselves, I suggest you pack two extra bags,” they add. What the hell could the men be aiming for? The two parents decide to obey, because at least they get the chance to stay with Mark. Joyce quickly packs Mark’s bag, while Mark takes care of their own luggage. They then go to the kitchen, where Mark is patiently waiting. Joyce strokes his head and asks him if everything is okay. Mark nods. He has the idea that he might be the one who can reassure his mother and then says in a sweet tone: “In a few days, everything will be back to normal, mommy. That is what I have agreed with these gentlemen. ” Joyce does not know whether she should be relieved or worried. Just minutes later, they are in one of the vans. They have no idea where they’re going. Although it all feels very unpleasant, Joyce and Oscar do realize that the Secret Service treats them civilized. From this, they conclude that the Service may rely on Mark. This turned out to be quite correct, although the danger was not yet over… A little later, they arrive at a large building, which is guarded by several men. They are given a card to carry with them immediately upon entry, and it is explained to them that they are fed three times a day, but are free to ask for certain groceries themselves. Then Oscar sees something. He sees how Mark’s computer is being installed in a room; it has the exact same decals on the side, and appears to be from the same brand. He asks one of the men why they took Mark’s computer and what they intend to do with it. The man replies that Mark himself can explain this to them at a later time. Oscar looks at Mark, who doesn’t realize he’s being talked about. He looks very tired, and has now laid down on the couch. It was clear that Mark was carrying a burden, and it was one of incalculable value… The investigation begins the next morning. The family has had a bad night. Oscar and Joyce because of their concerns, but Mark for a completely different reason. That night he was monitored by a specific device. This had everything to do with his prophetic dreams… Shortly after breakfast, Mark is again taken aside, and is gone for many hours. This is the final part of the Secret Service investigation. The end was in sight for poor Joyce and Oscar. Then Joyce and Oscar see Mark’s computer being packed up, and they realize it’s almost over, as two men approach them to finally talk them up to speed. Mark turns out to be a truly special child, with supernatural gifts. Whether he actually lived his previous life on Mars is doubted, but seems more likely every day after the investigation continues. Mark turns out to know more about Mars than any scientist and has a bright future ahead of him.
